Description
The VL53L0X from ST Microelectronics is a flight time that goes integrated system into a compact module. This card is a vector for the VL53L0X, so we recommend that you read the VL53L0X technical sheet (1 MB pdf) before using this product.
 
The VLA53L0 uses the ST FlightSense Impulse Technology accurately to measure how long it takes for infrared laser light to reach the nearest object and be reflected to a detector so that it can be considered a small, self-contained lidar system. This flight time (TOF) measurement allows you to accurately determine the distance to an absolute target without the reflection object greatly affecting the measurement. The sensor can signal distances up to 2 m (6.6 ft) with a resolution of 1mm, but its actual flow rate and accuracy (noise) strongly depends on ambient and destination characteristics such as reflection and size, as well as sensor configuration. (The precision sensor is specified for ranging from ± 3% at best for more than ± 10% in less optimal conditions.)
 
Ranging from I2 of the measurements are available through the sensor; C (TWI) interface, which is also used to configure sensor settings, and the sensor provides two additional pins: one stop input and one interrupt output.
 
The VL53L0X is a great IC, but its small, unleaded, LGA package makes it difficult for the typical student or hobbyist to use. It also works at a positive 2.8 V voltage, which can make difficult interfacing for microcontrollers operating at 3.3V or 5V. PIN Description
VDD Regulated 2.8 V output. Almost 150 mA is available to power external components. (If you want to bypass the internal controller, you can use this pin as a 2.8 V input with VIN disconnected.)
 
VIN This is the main power supply 2.6 V to 5.5 V. the SCL and SDA level translators pull the I⊃2; C high lines at this level.
 
GND earth (0 V) connection for your power supply. Your I2; C control source must also share a common ground with this board.
 
SDA Level-shifted I⊃2; C data line: HIGH is VIN, LOW is 0 V
 
SCL Level-shifted I⊃2; C clock line: HIGH is VIN, LOW is 0 V
 
XSHUT This pin is an active low-shutdown input; The card pulls up to VDD to enable the sensor by default. Guides this low pin puts the sensor in standby hardware. This input is not level-shifted.
