The APDS-9930 provides an I2C interface compatible ambient light sensor (ALS, Ambient Light Sensor) and a proximity sensor with an infrared LED in a single 8-pin package, where the ambient light sensor uses dual photodiodes to approximate low lumens at 0.01 lux illumination The performance of the human eye's visual response, the high sensitivity provided allows the device to operate behind dark glass. Proximity sensors are fully tuned for 100mm object detection, eliminating the need for factory calibration of end equipment and sub-assemblies. Proximity detection works well from bright sunlight to dark rooms. The inclusion of micro-optical lenses in the module provides efficient transmission and reception of infrared energy, reducing overall power consumption. In addition, an internal state machine enables the device to enter a low-power mode, resulting in very low average power consumption.
